This time I joined an Exodus tour as the “assistant” (as he said) of Jose Miguel García, the local operator in this area. In fact I was getting to know the area and this was the perfect opportunity for me to do it and help Jose out with the logistics of the trip. It was a great 8 days trek through the mountains of Alicante province. We were a group of 14 people; Nigel, Annette, Susi, Amanda, Robin, Deborah, Ann Marie, Michael, John, Jane, Daryn, Janah, Jose Miguel and me(M).
It was a memorable trip with amazing treks in Aixortá, Sierra Serrella, Sierra de Aitana, Peña Rock and Puig Campana.
Moments to remember:
Beauty on the top of Aixortà.
I remember very well the moment we arrived at the top of La Aixortà on the first day. It was a nice and clear-sky day and no wind was bothering us up there. The views where amazing. The Mediterranean sea in one side, with Puig Campana´s pick in front of us, the whole coastal line was visible and Jose was explaining us where was what. At the back we could see Aitana and next to us La Serrella, so the group could see where they were going to walk the following days. Beauty in our eyes. This is how I remember it.
Transporting the luggage: the never ending story.
As some of the local roads where shut because of the previous days weather, I had to drive for miles to get the luggage from one point to the other in our itinerary. It took me more or less the same amount of time driving the van from one place to the next as it took the guys to do it on foot! Unbelievable…(I know, you might be thinking I drive slowly and I have to admit that I DO! ;)
Difficult times in Aitana.
The weather had recently been cold and rainy (not on that day as it was very nice), so we found a lot more snow than we expected in Sierra de Aitana. There was a moment where we had to climb the top of the north face of Aitana and the gap we had to go through was small and high. Jose was helping everyone out, pushing our bottoms to make us go through that hole. We made it but it took us quite a bit of time as the rocks where very slippery. The views and weather at the other side where amazing..
Also we saw a incredibly deep FALLA that broke the mountain in two pieces.
Visit to the Almazara in Beniardà.
After the Serrellas trek, Jose took us to the local Almazara (olive oil manufactures), where in adition to buying some beautiful local olive oil, we could see the fabric inside and also an old olive oil press used in the past to extract the oil. It was very interesting and authentic visit.

Playing the pig.
Susi brought the group alive at night with her funny games (this sounds terrible, sorry Susi, I´ll explain..). She brought two games that were really good fun, throwing the pig and another one I can´t remember the name (I need your help here Susi please!).
I thought the piggies game was crazy as I had never seen it before and the little pigs were sooo cute! Jose Miguel also thought it was mental and played a game with the guys. He didn’t have much luck though… J
Tania the Masseur.
Finally we met Tania, the therapist that was going to give us a massage. Jose had told us about her, how strong she was and how well she worked. I think we had a mental image of her that was different to reality…
Last night Fiesta:
Our last night in Sella was fab. We had a lovely dinner at the rural hotel we were staying at. The wine was nicer as from that point we were on holiday from the holiday, so we could get a little tipsy without any remorses..so we did. M was on form and put some Spanish rumba music and we started dancing. Nigel and Debbs showed us their dancing skills, and Jose, Michael and M too and we nearly wet ourselves with a little note Debbs found in her room after the party was over…
And many other memories of this lovely trip I cannot remember right now. Please if anyone wants to include anything else, just let me know.
M (mireia).
